"You may sometimes have trouble determining the part of speech of one of the words in the stem. If this hapens, look at the answer choices. ETS uses one of the choices to 'establish the parts of speech' when one of the stem words is ambiguous. In other words, if you aren't sure about the words in the stem, check the words in the choices. The parts of speech should be clear from at least one of the choices." - Cracking the GRE, 2009 edition.
